Wingham Brush Nature Reserve is one of the town’s quiet miracles, especially having mostly survived the 2025 Manning River flood event.

A remnant patch of subtropical rainforest at the edge of town, home to one of the largest grey-headed flying fox colonies in NSW and trees so old they predate the town itself.

Take the short boardwalk through at dusk in season and the spectacle of thousands of bats lifting into the sky is genuinely unforgettable. Warn your guests first so they don’t miss it by leaving too early.

For guests staying longer

Ellenborough Falls is sixty minutes away and still the highest single-drop waterfall in NSW, a very scenic fact that never gets old.

Taree is twenty minutes in the other direction and offers everything a bigger town can, including surprisingly good cuisine from around the world.

The Manning Valley scenic drive to Krambach and returning via Nabiac on the Pacific Highway is one of those loops that looks modest on a map and turns out to be genuinely lovely in practice.
